I have spent quite some time working in the IT industry.I worked with teams of 10 people, 50 people and close to 100 people. Recently, I have worked closely in setting up IT infrastructure in an educational institution with over 150 staff, almost 80 technical. I have also worked with remote teams of small sizes. If 10 people reported to a manager, they were more likely to be happy at the end of the day, then 100 people reporting to one manager. Continue reading

Future Proofing Applications

For application developers of today, the most pressing issue is the rapid development of new platforms. Applications need to be compatible with newer, more feature-rich solutions almost all the time. The life-cycle of new platforms had been 12 months in 2004, and that was considered tight. In less than ten years, we now find that this life-cycle has reduced to less than 3 months. A newer platform feature evolves, and a new platform is released in just four (4) months in an ever-demanding consumer-driven market.

Operating System platforms like Windows, Ubuntu/Linux, Android/Linux, iOS have shown rapid feature development and releases. Platforms which once used to be “backward compatible” are no longer extending that favor.
